Dissonance and tension plus reflection and resolution equal intellectual growth

Who is Cory Roush?

I am a graduate of Ohio University-Zanesville, with a BSEd in Early Childhood Education (PreK-3), a Reading (K-12) Endorsement, and a 4th and 5th Grade Endorsement. I'm some kind of a geek, often spending too much time connecting with others on Twitter or Google+ and taking in news from a variety of sources. You can follow me on Twitter if you are interested in tweets about politics, technology, social media and education. And I collect quotes:

"Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will spend its whole life believing that it is stupid." - Albert Einstein

"All I ask of you, especially young people... is one thing. Please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism; it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen. I'm telling you, amazing things will happen." - Conan O'Brien (On his last "The Tonight Show" appearance, January 2010)

"The best teachers don't give you the answers, they just point the way and let you make your own choices, your own mistakes. That way, you get all the glory, and you deserve it." - Mr. Schuester (Glee)

"When we compare ourselves to others, we needlessly belittle our accomplishments. We give weight to the idea that venturing out of our comfort zone is 'no big deal' or that small successes are 'overrated.' Never despise small beginnings. Remember them and use them as inspiration as you go on to the next thing. When you venture outside your comfort zone, wherever the starting point may be, it’s kind of a big deal." - Chris Gillebeau

"The principal goal of education in the schools should be creating men and women who are capable of doing new things, not simply repeating what other generations have done; men and women who are creative, inventive, and discoverers, who can be critical and very, and not accept, everything they are offered." - Jean Piaget

"Expectations are just leftover praise. They are a blessing, and if you didn't have the capability to meet them, they wouldn't exist." - Chris Shiflett

"The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher esteem those who think alike than those who think differently." - Nietzsche

"Treat a man as he is and you make him worse than he is. Treat a man as he has the potential to become and you make him better than he is." - Goethe

"When you grow up, you tend to get told the world is the way it is and your life is just to live inside the world. Try not to bash into the walls too much. Try to have a nice family, have fun, save a little money. That's a very limited life. Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact: Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you and you can change it, you can influence it, and you can build your own things that other people can use. Once you learn that, you'll never be the same again." - Steve Jobs

"Don't assume things are done the right way because they have always been done that way. Question everything."

"A poor teacher complains, an average teacher explains, a good teacher teaches, a great teacher inspires."
